Project Educate: Welcome to Cosplay Week!:
Some source cited from Wikipedia.org.
Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure), short for "costume play", is a type of performance art in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centered on role play. A broader use of the term "cosplay" applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.
The term cosplay is a portmanteau of the words 'costume' and 'play'.
Costumes created by those who enjoy manga, anime, video games and movies, as well as books and television shows, are often worn to competitions, events, and for photoshoots. They can range from being wildly detailed to very simple and effective. They can be created out of anything laying around the house, or they can be pieced together painstakingly over months and sometimes even years!
The Cosplay gallery/genre on deviantART is gigantic. It branches out in to Artisan Crafts > Cosplay and Roleplaying, and in to Makeup Application, and even textiles and sculpting, as well as jewelry making.
As such, I can't cover everything, but for the next week I will try my best to bring to you informative articles and features covering as much as I possibly can!
If you like Cosplay, this week should be right up your alley!
I will be doing a series of short article features that will include photography features titled The A, B, C's of Cosplay (Part 2), as well as tutorials, and explanations used by cosplayers and conventions for your information!
